I'm opening up donations! For two reasons. The first is that a bunch of folks have commented asking if they could give me money. The second is that I'd like to upgrade to a paid version of the engine I'm using to make pony games that will allow me to make the games ad-free, downloadable as Adobe AIR apps and possibly even as Android apps.

Thanks to some generous donators I've met my first goal! The Season 3 Pony Minigames will be released as a big downloadable bundle at the season's end and the existing games will be slowly converted to ad-free-goodness! I'm keeping donations open to I can potentially get the toolkits to export native Android apps, so feel free to give me more money! :3

How do we give you money?

For PayPal, just use this link: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?…
Alternatively, you can just send money to sparklepeep@gmail.com.

For BitCoins, cybercurrency of the FUTURE, you can send it to the address: 1oYxQHHAsw2NoDKNJArUzF7B9wYr6zt5H

If you want to give me money and want physical things in return, you can always buy something from my store! Buttons! So many buttons!

What do I get for donating?

The happy feeling that you contributed to something! That, and anyone who donated will get a special mention in the bonus game in the Season 3 minigame collection. Did I mention that I'm making a bonus game? No? Well, um, here it is. (If you donated via BitCoins and you'd like credit you'll have to let me know specifically outside the transaction.) If you want swag, did I mention that I have a store?

What are you going to do with the money?

The Professional license of Stencyl costs $79, and will allow me to make ad-free games as well as downloadable games. :3 Once I get this all the Season 3 minigames (and possibly some of the older games like Catch the Scootaloos) will be redone to be ad-free, and all the S3 minigames will be downloadable in a special package at the end of the season. I actually have most of the money for the pro license earmarked. But Artist Alley and Convention reg costs are eating into it right now so I could use some more bits. :3

Android support will cost another $100-ish (since Android support hasn't officially been released yet we don't know the exact price, but it'll likely be similar to the iOS package price). If I end up getting enough money for the Android Exporter, then as many of the pony games as possible will be exported to Android. Unfortunately not all games will work well on mobile as is (e.g., the Trixie game will need quite a lot of UI adjustments) so I can't guarantee that all of them will be ported, but a lot of the simpler ones like the Applejack game will be.

Will the Android versions of the games be on the Google Play Store?

I will not be uploading anything to the app store for legal reasons. While the Google Play store is not very strict in enforcing copyrights (there's quite a few MLP fan apps on there, all using trademarked names and show assets) I'm not going to risk it. The games will be available as .apk files that you will need to install yourself like many of the pony fan games out there.

What about iOS / Apple App Store? Will you ever make pony games for iOS?

No. First, I do not have access to a device running iOS for testing. Second, the closed nature of iOS means that the only way to distribute an iOS app is via the official app store and I'm not going to spend $250+ ($100-ish for software, $100-ish for store account, $50-ish to get access to a Mac for publishing) so Apple can tell me I am not allowed to put fan games on the app store.

Hmm, interesting on the Android part. Well, I know why, copyright to me was not the problem since there are wallpapers and launchers in there, but the main problem is if I were you, you have to advertise it in there FOR FREE which anybody can download it. If it's paid, BAM! Slam the copyright offense on your account. If you're really worried that APK files are going to leak or spread everywhere, you can always keep it localized to here instead. ;)

Yeap, Apple claim themselves as they are not closed, but in reality, it's always been closed. And of course, there's no way for you to test your app when a simple iPhone's price is like twice the amount of a simple Android counter part. 3 times the price of a low-end model, 2 times for a mid-end AND a high-end has better features that current iP5, Galaxy Note II & more recently coming right up, 1080p screens. Anyway, the point is, you'll be forced to make us play non-720p stuff on the iPhone 5, those who already bought the phone don't have the proper brains to see what's going on in the Android market today. And apps don't mix very well as you might be risking lots of black boxes, videos suffer with black boxes on 4:3 screens. Sorry if I talk too much, I'm very anti-Apple anyways.

Anyway, good luck with your work! ;)
